1. What prepaid card do you issue?

We offer our members the Engage credit union Visa prepaid card. You can only apply for the card if you are a member of a credit union that offers it.

It has been designed to give people a flexible and low-cost way to get a card even if they don't have a high street bank account.

2. How can I apply for a credit union prepaid card?

You need to be a Boom! member and be over 18 to apply for an Engage prepaid card.

Bring the form in to us, along with proof of ID. We issue your card on the spot, and you can start using it immediately. You do need to have a mobile phone so that we can text you the details you need to activate the card. There are no credit checks involved.

You need to load at least £10.00 onto the card to start with. We take the £3.50 card issue charge and the 50p top up charge off the £10.00 when we load it. v1

3. How do I activate my card and get my PIN?

Before you start using your Engage prepaid card you will need to activate it and retrieve your PIN. You can do this by going onto your online account or by telephoning 0333 202 3642 (option 2). You will need your 8-digit account number, 16-digit card number, username and password handy.

4. What should I do if my prepaid card is lost or stolen?

You can block your card through the Engage app or by calling 0333 202 3642.

5. How do I load money/ top up my prepaid card?

We can arrange for a certain amount of money to be loaded onto your prepaid card from your Boom! savings account each month. To contact us about this you can either:

You can also use the card’s account number and sort code to pay into it directly from another UK bank account.

You can also pay in cash at a PayPoint. The charge for this is 50p + 2.5% of the amount your pay in.

6. What rewards can I get by using this card?

Go to the Engage website to find out more about the rewards and discounts you are eligible for through Engage.

8. How much can I put on my prepaid card?

You can load between £10 and £5,000 onto your card at one time. There’s a 50p charge every time you load the card.

9. Where can I use my prepaid card?

Your credit union prepaid card is accepted in most places that you can use a Visa debit card, including in shops, online, to get cash back in-store, or to withdraw cash from a cash machine. You can use it in the UK and abroad.

10. How do I check the balance on my prepaid card?

You can check your balance using the Engage app.
